Ira Goldstein (b. 6 April, 1920) was once the first supernatural field agent of the Demon Research Initiative. The Initiative began its life as a top secret military project in 1943, and was handed over to the CIA when it was founded in 1947. Ira was drafted for it when it spread to the FBI in 1953. In 1957, he was commanded to make contact and form a partnership with a vampire, Darla. With some finessing, she accepted his proposal, and they remained partners (off and on) until 1961.

Ira retired from the Bureau in 1985, to a nice, quiet life in the Wilshire suburb of Los Angeles, California.

When John St. Croix found himself alive again in Louisiana over four hundred years after his own death, things were just a little confusing. He knew about the supernatural before that happened, thank goodness, but Jesus wept, no one told him anything about this.Lost and alone with nowhere else to go, John asked the first person he could find if she knew where the Bellinghams lived. Upon being asked which Bellinghams he was looking for, he leapt on the first name that sounded familiar and found himself meeting his eleventh great-grandniece, Sidda Bellingham. 

Sidda introduced John to the rest of her supernaturally-aware family, in particular her actively fighting cousins, the Batiste siblings Landon and Naomi (who are John’s twelfth great-grandchildren), and Hugo Zulime (the eleventh great-grandson of his stepbrother Eliphaz). 

Together, they fight crime. And find a whole mess of trouble.
